Straight from the mouths of the people at www.wordle.net . Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide.

We have had loads of fun with this site here at The Marketing Table. We found that you can copy and paste words from your site, or brainstorm, and create something fresh. You can decide what colours the words appear in and even what proportion should be vertical or horizontal.

This is a great tool to create a unique visual for your business that can sum up everything you are about. And at the same time it is a practical application that can help you  identify keywords for your business.

Just start by copying a piece of text like a press release that you've written about your business into the wordle interface and you'll start to see what words you seem to use a lot to describe you and what you are about. The first thing you'll notice is that you'll surprise yourself with what you communicate about what you do.

The second is you'll start to ask: is this what my customers want, is it what they are looking for and is it how they will find me?  You can apply this to everything from a Press Release that you want to get into the media to your online strategy. Of course you can always just do it to create the wonderful visual that comes out of the exercise.
